PHARR, RGV – Calling all voters. What question would you like to see asked of those running for Congressional District 15 at a LIVE TV candidates’ forum?

CBS 4 will air the forum LIVE on TV from the Pharr Events Center from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February, 15. The event is open to the public.

News Talk 710 KURV will simulcast the forum LIVE. The Rio Grande Guardian will tweet LIVE from the forum. Questions will be posed to the candidates by reporters from CBS 4, KURV and the Rio Grande Guardian. The City of Pharr is title sponsor of the forum.

“This is a great opportunity for the voters of Congressional District 15 and, indeed, residents across South Texas, to pose critical questions to the candidates running for this important seat. We want to hear from the voters. What subjects would you like to see covered at the forum? Immigration? Border security? Education? Healthcare? Whatever it is, we want to hear from you,” said Rio Grande Guardian marketing director Shon Gonzalez.

Submit your questions to Rio Grande Guardian editor Steve Taylor at [email protected] They will be considered along with questions framed by the CBS 4 and KURV editorial teams.

The voters of Congressional District 15 will elect a new member of Congress this year because longtime Congressman Rubén Hinojosa, D-Mercedes, has announced he is not seeking re-election. The Democratic Party candidates vying for the seat are Dolly Elizondo, Vicente Gonzalez, Joel Quintanilla, Sonny Palacios, Ruben Ramirez, and Randy Sweeten. The Republican Party candidates running for the seat are Xavier Salinas, Ruben Villarreal, and Tim Westley.

At press time seven of the nine candidates had confirmed their appearance. We are still waiting for confirmation from Elizondo and Salinas.

“I would like to thank CBS 4 General Manager Linda Guerrero Deicla for putting on this LIVE televised forum. It shows great civic responsibility. Between us, CBS 4, KURV and the Rio Grande Guardian have collaborated with great success on candidate forums in the past. I am sure this one will be just as good, entertaining and educational,” Taylor added.

More information about the 2016 Congressional District 15 Candidates Forum will be posted on the CBS 4 website in the coming days.
