MCALLEN, Texas – Congressional District 15 candidate Michelle Vallejo acknowledged she is being heavily outspent by her general election opponent but says money cannot buy an election.
The voters of CD 15 will elect a new member of Congress because incumbent U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez chose to run in a neighboring district. The race is between Vallejo, a Democrat, and Monica De La Cruz, a Republican.
In a recent speech at Koko’s Restaurant in McAllen, Vallejo said millions of dollars are being poured into the race by her opponent and super PACs supporting her. The rally was hosted by the Tejano Democrats. Keynote speaker was the co-founder of the Farm Workers Union, Dolores Huerta. Vallejo said Huerta was an inspiration to many.
