MISION, Texas – President Joe Biden sent a letter to Juanita Valdez-Cox, longtime director of La Unión del Pueblo, to congratulate her on her retirement.

The letter was read aloud by former Congressional District 15 candidate Michelle Vallejo at a celebratory dinner honoring the community leader.

A glossy brochure was produced for the event titled: The Movement Continues: The Legacy of Juanita Valdez-Cox.

Many dignitaries from the farmworkers movement were present, including Arturo Rodriguez, Rebecca Flores, and James C. Harrington. The emcee was comedian, actress, writer and producer Cristela Alonzo, a native of San Juan, Texas.

The event was held at Mission Event Center.

Here are three videos from the dinner, featuring Vallejo, Valdez-Cox, and the new director of LUPE, Tania A. Chavez Camacho.
