VICTORIA, Tamaulipas – The State of Tamaulipas is urging Mexican nationals in the United States not to return to their homeland for the Easter holidays.

Traditionally, tens of thousands of paisanos would head south to see their loved ones during Easter week, known in Mexico as “Semana Santa.”

Many would visit Mexico’s parks and beaches. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, parks and beaches are closed and there is a stay-at-home directive from federal health officials.

The State of Tamaulipas has launched a video on social media to urge paisanos to stay in the United States. The video states:

Paisano friend – in Mexico we always want you back.

But now, support us to take care of you and your family.

In this season, it is recommended that you do not travel to Mexico.

For your health and that of your family, this time do not cross!

Help us contain the spread of the Coronavirus.

Paisano, there will be another occasion to visit your family.

By staying at home in the United States, you take care of your family here in Mexico.

For your health and that of your family, at this time, please do not cross.
