WESLACO, Texas: State Rep. Ryan Guillen says the Rio Grande Valley legislative delegation is well-positioned to do “good things” for the region in the upcoming legislative session.

Guillen, a Republican from Rio Grande City, is the most senior member of the Valley delegation in the Texas House of Representatives. He represents an 11-county district and is about to start his 11th legislative session.

Guillen spoke at a legislative sendoff reception co-hosted by the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Rio Grande Valley Partnership.

It was held at UT-Rio Grande Valley’s Center for Innovation and Commercialization in Weslaco.

In his brief remarks, Guillen said he was looking forward to working with the different groups represented in the audience.

“I’m really honored to be able to serve with my fellow colleagues from the Rio Grande Valley, with our new state Senator Morgan LaMantia, (I’m) very proud of her. And I look forward to working with each one of you as we have in the past to do good things for the Rio Grande Valley,” Guillen said.

I think we’re very well positioned as a delegation, both in the Senate and the House. And I think we’ve got great opportunities to do some good things and I’m excited to work with each one of you to do so.”

LaMantia, a Democrat from South Padre Island, was the other member of the Valley legislative delegation to attend the reception.
