WESLACO, Texas – Steve Valdez has announced the date of the groundbreaking ceremony for the eagerly anticipated second industrial park in Weslaco.

The ceremony will take place Oct. 14, starting at 9 a.m. The industrial park is located off of FM 1015 and Mile 9.

Valdez is executive director of Weslaco Economic Development Corporation. He gave a brief update on his group’s current projects at a monthly meeting of the South Texas Manufacturers Association. The event was held at the Double Tree Inn & Suites in McAllen.

Valdez said the plan was for the new industrial park to cover 150 acres. However, with easements, new roads and other improvements the size will be about 122 acres.

“We have two companies under contract right off the start. We haven’t even broken ground yet and we’re excited to have two major contracts,” Valdez said.

“One of them is about a $30 million investment with about 200 jobs. The second one is a little smaller. They’re about 10 million (dollars) with 147 jobs.”
