LA JOYA, Texas – The late Billy Leo was honored by family, friends and La Joya city leaders on Saturday when a park was named in his honor.

The park is on Military Highway and Garza Road, La Joya.

Leo, who passed away five years ago, was the legendary mayor of La Joya for many years. He was also a former Hidalgo County Clerk.

Family, friends and elected officials, including Mayor Isidro Casanova, paid their respects at a ceremony held at the park. It took place on the same day and at the same venue as the 4th Annual Billy Leo Foundation BBQ Cook-off.  The foundation also held a Family Walk/ Run. The foundation provides scholarships to local students.
