HARLINGEN, RGV – After a unanimous vote, Valley International Airport’s board of directors elected Dr. Mark J. Kroll, Phd., as their new chairman.

Dr. Kroll is Dean of the Robert C. Vackar College of Business and Entrepreneurship, and professor of management at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and oversees the College of Business in the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.

Kroll is working with Brownsville businessman Carlos Marin and Congressman Filemon Vela to develop a bi-national economic development zone for the Rio Grande Valley and northern Tamaulipas.

Over the course of his career, Kroll has worked and taught overseas, published more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, 80 papers, and five books on strategic management. His research work primarily focuses on corporate governance and the role of top management teams in determining the performance of young, entrepreneurial firms.

Dr. Kroll has been a member of the VIA Board for four years. “When Mayor Boswell asked me to serve on the airport board, I was excited to accept the challenge because aviation is a truly fascinating business and pivotal to the growth of the Rio Grande Valley. The airport administration covers so many areas of responsibility that I never stop learning something new with regards to the 24/7 operation that we proudly carry out at VIA,” Kroll said.

Members of the VIA Board are appointed by the Mayor of Harlingen and include: Chairman Pro-Tem Julie Ezell-Perez, an attorney from Harlingen; Ricky Leal, a bank officer from Harlingen; Vickie Moore, a real estate broker from Harlingen; Tito Resendez, an insurance agent of Harlingen; Nick Consiglio, a bank officer of Harlingen; Richard Franke, a real estate broker from South Padre Island; Rolando Rubiano, an engineer from Harlingen; Craig F. Lonon, a retiree from Palm Valley.

Under Dr. Kroll’s leadership, VIA aims to provide the Rio Grande Valley with a world class airport and air service.
