The hospital is celebrating the final turnover of the remaining floors of its five-story, $100+ million patient tower
It’s official. South Texas Health System Edinburg is ready to welcome patients across all operational floors of its new five-story, $100+ million patient tower this month, less than two years after breaking ground on the project.
Last month, STHS Edinburg opened its emergency department, intensive care unit (ICU) and comprehensive imaging center, all located on the first two floors of the new tower. Now, following completion of all state inspections, the hospital is prepared to open its expanded inpatient rehabilitation unit and adult inpatient nursing unit, located on the third and fourth floors respectively, on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.
To celebrate completion of the project, STHS Edinburg will host a grand opening ceremony on Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Taking place in the hospital’s main lobby, the event will feature the participation of Marc D. Miller, President and Chief Executive Officer, Universal Health Services, Inc., STHS Edinburg’s parent company; local and state elected officials including Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez; South Texas Health System leaders and medical staff.
In addition to taking part in the grand opening ceremony, attendees will get the chance to visit the inpatient rehabilitation and adult inpatient nursing units.
Constructed to meet the expanding need for accessible, quality healthcare in our ever-growing community, STHS Edinburg’s new patient tower has been designed with an improved patient experience in mind, including large windows in all patient rooms and public spaces. In total, the new tower adds 59 new adult beds, bringing the hospital’s overall bed count to 202. It also features shell space, including the entire fifth floor, for an additional 55 beds to meet future growth needs.
