The money will benefit students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare through educational scholarships

South Texas Health System’s 8th annual Heroes with Heart 5K Walk/Run held at STHS Heart on February 26 received tremendous community support, with hundreds braving the cold, drizzling weather to participate in the race and join in the fight against heart disease.

In addition to learning about heart healthy practices and competing for first, second and third place trophies in their age divisions, race participants helped raise more than $6,000 for charity. Every year, STHS Heart donates proceeds from the 5K to a nonprofit organization. This year’s proceeds will be donated to support the education of  the next generation of healthcare heroes.

On Thursday, February 24, STHS Heart will host an official check presentation to award the money to Stars Scholarship Fund for local students pursuing careers in healthcare. The money will be matched by South Texas College for a total of more than $12,000 supporting future registered nurses, physicians and more.
