Families are invited to join STHS in kicking off the holiday season with a safe outdoor event featuring food, crafts, games and special performances by local students

South Texas Health System Children’s never misses the opportunity to  spread some cheer to its current and former patients, as well as the community, during the holiday season. During the height of the pandemic, South Texas Health System turned to virtual and drive-thru activities to help celebrate special moments. Now, with more than 80% of the Hidalgo County population having received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine according to state health departments, and a drop in COVID-related hospitalizations, STHS Children’s is excited to safely welcome back RGV families to its first major in-person event since 2019 — the facility’s annual Children’s Christmas Posada, which was cancelled in 2020.

With the theme of “Christmas Around the World,” attendees will be able to travel from from continent to continent (without ever boarding a plane!) as they stroll through the STHS Children’s main parking lot, stopping to enjoy treats, drinks, games and crafts, all while learning about special holiday traditions from various global destinations at stations set up by STHS’ facilities and departments, as well as participating community organizations, including a space to have your photo taken with Santa Claus.

The free outdoor event will also feature performances by local students and will adhere to safety guidelines, including adequate spacing between booths and a mask requirement.
