San Benito Hires New Executive Director

San Benito, Texas – After several months of searching and undergoing a hiring process by the San Benito Economic Development Corporation (SBEDC) Board and approved by the San Benito City Commission. Mrs. Rebeca Castillo has been selected as the new Executive Director for the EDC with her first day on the job being Monday, January 28, 2019.

Mrs. Rebeca Castillo’s most recent job was Chief Executive Officer for the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) in Brownsville, TX. BCIC is a type B economic development corporation and is the 2nd largest type B EDC in the state of Texas.  With over twenty (25) years of experience in the public sector and extensive experience in transportation planning & economic development, the SBEDC is very confident that Mrs. Castillo is integral in leading the San Benito’s economic development efforts.

Julian Rios, Board President stated “On behalf of the Board of Directors for the EDC we would like to thank the City Commission for their support and approval of our selection for EDC Director. It is important that we work together and I believe Mrs. Castillo will accomplish the goals we have for the EDC by collaboratively working with the city.”

Mrs. Rebeca Castillo stated “As an economic development professional & resident of San Benito for over twenty (20) years, I am committed to make San Benito a thriving city that will maximize economic development opportunities, develop and foment a culture of strategic planning, identify priorities, & be business oriented.

I want to make sure that there is continuous collaboration with the City of San Benito’s leadership and other interested partners.  I am a true believer that great things happen when we work together and collaboratively work in the best interest of our community.

Lastly, I am very thankful to the SBEDC Board and City of San Benito Commission for trusting me in this new leadership role & excited to make great things happen for our community.”
