ROMA, Texas – U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar has congratulated Roma High School’s Mariachi Nuevo Santander on being selected to participate in the official Biden-Harris inauguration events.

The ward-winning ensemble will feature in this evening’s Latino Inaugural 2021 on Telemundo and Univision with a virtual recording of “This Land Is Your Land.” The event will showcase the inheritance, resilience and promise of Hispanic communities, with actress Eva Longoria as host.

“I was with the students and Mr. Guzman, the superintendent, and Mr. Garza, the high school mariachi director, congratulating them about tonight,” Cuellar said during a virtual news conference on Tuesday.

“Here we have a small border community, Roma, Texas, and they are going to be part of the inauguration. I am very proud of Roma High School.”

Cuellar, a Democrat from Laredo, represents Roma in Congress. Carlos Guzman is superintendent of Roma ISD and Eloy Garza is mariachi program director at Roma ISD. 

President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris will be sworn into office at 12 noon on Wednesday. Latino artists will celebrate the occasion on primetime TV this evening.

“Roma ISD’s Mariachi Program is thrilled to announce the students of Roma High School’s Mariachi Nuevo Santander will be part of the official line up of inauguration events this week in honor of President-Elect Joseph R. Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris,” said Helen Escobar, coordinator of public relations for Roma ISD.

“The students will debut a virtual recording of “This Land Is Your Land” during the Latino Inaugural 2021. Please tune in as these amazing students represent Roma, Starr County, and the entire Rio Grande Valley with pride, showcasing the very best of mariachi music for the United States and the entire world.”
