McALLEN, RGV – Mike Rhodes, president of Rhodes Enterprises, Inc., made news on a Rio Grande Guardian Facebook livestream on Wednesday when he revealed plans for a large neighborhood housing project in Brownsville.

In an interview with Rio Grande Guardian publisher Mark Hanna, Rhodes said Brownsville is in great need of such a project. Rhodes Enterprises is the company developing the master-planned Tres Lagos project in northwest McAllen.

In an interview following the livestream, Rhodes said:

Rhodes Enterprises Is developing 240 acres next to Brownsville Sports Park. It will offer about 600 affordable to mid-level homes.

“This is going to be an exciting community for Brownsville. It will be a 240-acres development, with about 600 homes. It will be like our other communities with Rick Harrison design and curvy roads, pocket parks – similar to what we are doing at Tres Lagos,” Rhodes said.

“It will be adjacent to the Brownsville Sports Park. I think it will be a great addition. They are in desperate need of a new good community. They are doing such a good job on the job creation front but, just like Tres Lagos is doing for McAllen, they need a good community to help draw companies.”

Asked if there are any other companies involved in the project, Rhodes said he could not name them at this stage.

“Esperanza Homes, our home building company, will be our only builder. It will be a project with affordable to mid-level homes in a fabulous community.”

Asked what the timeline is, Rhodes said: “Within 18 months. We will be under construction in eight or ten months. We will have houses available in 18 months. It is very doable. The utilities are at the site. It will not take long.”

In the one-hour livestream, Rhodes talked about how he came to the Valley and how being involved with IDEA Public Schools has been his most rewarding project. He discussed the three big projects Rhodes Enterprises has been involved in over the past decade or so: Bentsen Palm in Mission, Alliance River Crossing Project in Donna, and Tres Lagos in McAllen.
