PHARR – To be used as the guiding tool for the upcoming school year and beyond, the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District recently unveiled the district’s new Vision and Mission developed during the 2019-2020 school year through a 6-month process that included extensive stakeholder input and feedback.
The PSJA School Board of Trustees officially adopted the final draft earlier this summer on June 22, 2020. The process, which started back in January, included numerous focus groups, surveys, and exchanges. Hundreds of thoughts and conversations were gathered, drafted, and revised until reaching the final product.
“We are thankful to our students, parents, staff members and community partners for joining us through this process,” said PSJA School Board President Jorge Palacios. “They clearly shared their priorities and expectations for the future of PSJA.”
PSJA ISD’s leadership appreciates the collaboration of partner The Holdsworth Center who assisted in documenting the process with full transparency, ensuring all voices were heard and captured to reflect the essence of PSJA.
“I would also like to thank our dynamic school board for their leadership and support,” said Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo, Superintendent of Schools. “This was no easy task, in fact, it had not been done in almost two decades, but together as we celebrated our district’s Centennial, we saw the need to build a new vision and mission that corresponded with who we are today and where we want to be in years to come.”
The following is the adopted PSJA ISD Vision and Mission Statement:
Vision
Every PSJA student is prepared to participate, compete, and excel in a global society to foster multi-generational prosperity.
Mission
As educational leaders, the PSJA team is engaged and empowered to connect all students with innovative instruction, outstanding facilities, technology, skills, and social-emotional support while prioritizing health and safety for all – from early childhood through their chosen career.
As one PSJA family, we build on our legacy of academic excellence, renowned college and career readiness, biliteracy and extracurricular programs, and our multicultural heritage to ensure every student has the experiences and resources necessary to achieve the highest levels of success
As the district prepares to welcome all staff back to the 2020-2021 School Year on, Monday, August 17, 2020 during a virtual convocation, the new Vision and Mission will officially be shared with district’s 4,500 plus employees.
“It is our new guiding light that will lead us to our next step, aligning our district strategic priorities to our new Vision and Mission,” Dr. Arredondo said. “We are excited to continue this work that will unify all our employees to continue the excellence PSJA is known for and propel all students to greater success.”
