Prairie View A&M University Community Economic Development Unit (CED) of the Cooperative Extension Program (CEP) Celebrates National Homeownership Month, Highlights Testimonials, Upcoming Projects, and Outreach Programs that promote and advance homeownership opportunities for limited-resource families and individuals. 

In honor of National Homeownership Month, The Community & Economic Development (CED) Unit will be hosting educational programs and workshops throughout Hidalgo County that helps people in rural, urban, and limited-resource communities buy, repair, or refinance homes. At CEP, we realize that homeownership is the foundation for building and maintaining wealth in limited-resource communities. CED staff is here to provide hands-on assistance, outreach, and education to help individuals and communities build or sustain wealth through homeownership. 

Throughout June, we’ll be facilitating housing fairs, roundtable discussions, projects, implementing home repair programs, and sharing resources with first-time homebuyers, families, and individuals. This program provides a path to homeownership for low- and very-low-income families living in rural areas, and families who truly have no other way to make affordable homeownership a reality. Providing these affordable homeownership opportunities promotes prosperity, which in turn creates thriving communities and improves the quality of life in rural areas.
