MCALLEN, Texas – Sister Norma Pimentel of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley held a webinar on Tuesday to hear from churches and faith-based groups that are helping to feed the hungry.

Pimentel is setting up a directory of those that are helping during the coronavirus. She also wants to create a list of counselors who can assist Valley residents who are suffering from stress during the current crisis.

Those on the call heard about the work currently being undertaken by the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley, plus restaurants that are providing free meals.

Among those on the call were Jaime Longoria. executive director of Hidalgo County’s Community Service Agency, Elaine Hernandez, regional director of Baylor University’s Texas Hunger Initiative, and Susan Hellums of the Rio Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church.
