

MCALLEN, Texas – For the latest in our Meet the Candidate podcast series, Rio Grande Guardian editor Steve Taylor met up with Hilda Garza DeShazo.
A Republican, Garza DeShazo is running for the District 2 slot on the Texas State Board of Education.
Garza DeShazo graduated from McAllen High School.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and speech and a master’s degree in public school administration from the University of
Texas-Pan American. Her career experience includes working as a teacher and a principal.
Garza DeShazo is a former member of the McAllen ISD school board of trustees.
In 2016 she ran as the Republican candidate for Texas House District 41, which is centered in McAllen.
