McALLEN, RGV – Judging by all the comments on social media, people of the Rio Grande Valley want to do their bit to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

A number of organizations in the RGV are offering to help. Joaquin Spamer of CiL, an import-export logistics company with various locations around the Valley is donating one of his trucks to take supplies to victims in the Coastal Bend and Houston.
McAllen ISD has sent its drone team to help with search and rescue efforts.
Among the items needed for those who have been displaced are clothing, bottled water, non-perishable food, toiletries, baby food, etc.
Among the drop-off locations in the Valley for such items are all Harvey Davidson centers, Longhorn Paving Oilfield Services, all Payne Auto centers, Ranch House Burgers in Weslaco and Mission, and 281 Truck Trailer Services.
The Rio Grande Guardian will provide details of other drop-off locations for Harvey donations as they become available. Also, listeners to RGV Public Radio 88 FM can phone in with such information to the station’s hotline: 956-412-5624.
Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley
In response to Hurricane Harvey, the Food Bank RGV is coordinating with H-E-B to collect and deliver donations to the food banks located in Corpus Christi and Victoria, Texas.
From Sunday, Aug. 27th to Sunday, Sept. 3, Valley residents can drop off SPECIFIC donations at any Hidalgo, Cameron or Willacy county H-E-B stores.
The following new items will only be accepted:
- Bottled Water (Non-flavored, non-carbonated) Powdered Milk
- Peanut Butter & Jelly Individual Cereal
- Easy open Tuna/Potted Meat/Vienna Sausages Bleach (1 gallon)
- Easy open Fruit Cans/Cups Paper Towels & Toilet Paper
No glass containers.
The Food Bank RGV will be coordinating with The Food Bank of Corpus Christi, the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent (Victoria) and Feeding Texas to collect these items and deliver them as soon as conditions are safe in the Hurricane Harvey landfall zone.
