REYNOSA, Tamaulipas – Residents living in Toyoacan Street in the Marte R. Gómez colonia are looking for help from outgoing Reynosa Mayor Maki Esther Ortiz Dominguez.

The residents have been complaining for weeks about sewage water coming up through the drains outside their homes.

“The smell is awful. It is a real health issue. It makes you feel sick,” said Raquel Casas. “We are hoping Mayor Maki can get the drainage fixed before she leaves office.”

Ortiz Dominguez, of a member of the PAN political party, will be replaced as mayor by her son Carlos Peña Ortiz, a member of the Morena party.

“Drainage has to be the No. 1 issue for any administration in Reynosa. It is certainly our biggest complaint. This thick green slime has been lying dormant in our streets for months. It really is repulsive. I do hope the mayor can look into this soon,” Casas said.
