News In Pictures: Save Green Jay Park (Part Two)

MCALLEN, Texas – Homeowners, environmentalists, and disc golfers gathered at Green Jay Park this past Sunday to protest plans to bulldoze the park.

McAllen city leaders want to change the classification of the land from “agricultural” to “light industrial.” This would allow the City to sell the property to tech giants Zoho Corporation. Zoho wants to build a 90-acre campus on the park.

The City of McAllen’s planning and zoning board has recommended the land, which is in a flood zone, stay “agricultural.”

The park is located off of Ware Road, just south of I-2 in McAllen.

Rio Grande Guardian International News Service photo-journalist Madison Girault covered the “Save Green Jay Park” event. Here is the second in a two-part photo essay series from the event. Click on the image to enlarge.
