HARLINGEN, RGV – Three entities are vying to provide PBS programming in the Rio Grande Valley, according to a trade publication that concentrates on Federal Communications Commission and public media issues.
Current.Org is reporting that R Communications, KEDT-TV, and RGV Equal Voice Network are working on plans to provide public broadcasting in the Valley.
R Communications of Del Rio is negotiating to purchase KMBH-TV, the Valley’s current PBS provider, from the Diocese of Brownsville, Current reports. It also says KEDT-TV, the PBS station in Corpus Christi, wants to pipe PBS from Corpus Christi to the Valley through an agreement with an existing station in the region. And, the trade magazine says Equal Voice is working with school districts and, possibly, the University of Texas, to form a community trust to take over the PBS license for the Valley.
