MCALLEN, RGV – McAllen Mayor Jim Darling and mayoral challengers Othal Brand, Jr., and Jonathan Carranza participated in a LIVE Facebook conversation with Rio Grande Guardian publisher Mark Hanna on Thursday.
It was the first time all McAllen mayoral candidates had taken part in a LIVE Facebook conversation with a news media publication.
Among the topics discussed were help for McAllen’s small business community, the Tres Lagos master planned community, the impact of the Dodd-Frank banking legislation on Mexican investors, international trade with Mexico, development of Anzalduas International Bridge, the merits of a healthcare district for Hidalgo County, and regional cooperation in the Rio Grande Valley.
“Voters want to hear candidates speak freely and express their ideas. We were delighted to be able to sit down with each candidate in a Facebook LIVE setting, and allow their constituents to follow along as we did,” said Hanna.
Early voting starts Monday, April 24, 2017. Election Day is May 6, 2017.
