EDINBURG, RGV – Rio Grande Valley FC Toros kick off a new season this evening with a friendly game against C.F. Monterrey, commonly known as Rayados.

The game starts at 7 p.m. at H-E-B Park in Edinburg.

“We are more than excited to inaugurate our H-E-B Park with an international friendly against a renowned team like Rayados,” said Toros President Bert Garcia.

In an interview with the Rio Grande Guardian, Garcia pointed out that Monterrey CF has won the Mexican league championship our times. He said his team’s inaugural game for the 2017 season is an example of high level of play and entertainment H-E-B Park seeks to provide the community.

“One of the goals of the organization is to provide first-class entertainment to the Rio Grande Valley and we cannot wait to see the support of the community in the stands.”

Rio Grande Valley FC is now in its second season of operation and plays in the United Soccer League. Its first league opponents are San Antonio FC, with the game slated for Sunday, March 26, at H-E-B Park.

Toros has a new head coach: Othoniel “Junior” Gonzalez. He was formerly assistant coach for Seattle Sounders FC 2.
