MCALLEN, RGV – The 2017 Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Games of Texas are here and students from across the great state of Texas will be traveling to the Rio Grande Valley to compete in a variety of sports.
In addition to being a great economic generator for the region, it is a great family and community event. Unlike athletes in the past, young athletes who live in the Rio Grande Valley will experience a competitive level of sports right in their home town. Facilities, roads, restaurants and most likely, sports stores, will be in high demand during the Games of Texas.
It is important to cherish moments such as these, our region is transforming because of the planning and hard work of many people and organizations. The Rio Grande Valley has a NCAA Division I athletic program with UTRGV, a professional basketball team with the RGV Vipers (NBA D-League), a professional soccer team with the RGV FC Toros and now, for the second year, the TAAF Games of Texas. Take a bow Rio Grande Valley, we are making major leaps in the sports arena.
The opening ceremony begins at 5:00pm Friday night at the McAllen Convention Center.
