EDINBURG, RGV – The Rio Grande Guardian has started a new live series on Facebook called Conversation with the Candidates.

Four candidates have been featured so far – Ray Thomas, who is running for the open chief justice seat on the 13th Court of Appeals, Joseph Palacios, who is running as an incumbent for Hidalgo County Commissioner, Precinct 4, Carlos Cascos, who is running as a challenger for Cameron County Judge, and Dori Contreras, who is also running for the open chief justice seat on the 13th Court of Appeals.

The aim is to feature every candidate in the Rio Grande Valley who is running in a contested race in the 2018 elections.

The livestreams run 30 minutes to an hour, allowing for an in-depth conversation about the candidates, why they are seeking elected office, and the campaign platform they are running on.

“These are no 30-second soundbites. We want to explore the issues in-depth and find out more about the candidates. The goal is to produce a more enlightened citizenry and so far, the response has been very positive,” said Rio Grande Guardian Editor Steve Taylor.

Conversation with the Candidates will be presented by various guest moderators. The early livestreams have been moderated by Pharr businesswoman Mari Regalado.

“I am having a blast. It is great fun. I think we are getting to know a lot about the candidates. Kudos to the Rio Grande Guardian for putting on this service,” Regalado said.

Upcoming Conversation with the Candidates livestreams include Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace Homer Jasso, Sr., and 13th Court of Appeals Chief Justice candidate Ernie Aliseda.
