TRES LAGOS, Texas – A community lifestyle manager for Rhodes Property Management says having a new health clinic at Tres Lagos will help attract more residents to the development.

Shawn Boreta spoke at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Family Medicine and Patient Rehabilitation Clinic that South Texas Health System has opened in the master-planned community. The clinic is run by Dr. Jeffrey Panting Crespo, MD.

“I am so pleased to be here to represent Rhodes Enterprises. On behalf of Nick Rhodes and our leadership team, I want to thank everyone for coming out. We are so excited about the clinic being here,” said Boreta, from the podium.

“I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Crespo on his first day in the neighborhood. And when he said he was the doctor, I went oh my gosh, I need to introduce him to everyone.”

Boreta added: “I’m totally off the topic but I just wanted to say we’re excited about everything that South Texas Health System does, and especially in this clinic. It totally aligns with our healthy lifestyle. And I’m honored to be here. If you guys have any questions about the community or anything, that’s what I’m here for. So thank you.”

Interviewed after her remarks, Boreta said she had been a resident at Tres Lagos since June 2022. “I absolutely love the community,” she said. “Having this clinic will attract a lot more people here.”

Asked how many people live at Tres Lagos, Boreta said: “About 600. Our aim is to get that number up to 5,000. We are five years into our 25-year plan.”

Boreta’s husband said he planned to switch doctors now that Dr. Crespo’s clinic is open. “My current doctor is about eight miles away. Everything is about eight miles away.”

Blanca Cardenas, vice president of membership services and operations for the McAllen Chamber of Commerce also welcomed Dr. Crespo and STHS to Tres Lagos. “I just want to thank you for your investment. It is always great to see businesses investing in the community because not only does our city reap the benefits from it but so does the entire Rio Grande Valley.”

An STHS Clinics flyer gave biographical details on Dr. Crespo.

“Dr. Crespo is a board-certified family medicine physician who provides compassionate care for newborns to older adults at his clinic conveniently located between Tres Lagos Boulevard and North Ware Road in Mcallen. He received his medical degree from The Latin University of Costa Rica and completed his family medicine residency training at St. Luke’s University Health Network located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania,” the flyer stated.

Dr. Crespo speaks English and Spanish.

Services offered at Dr. Crespo’s clinic include: annual wellness visits, chronic disease management, follow-up care after a hospital visit, Medicare wellness visits, medication management, pediatric wellness visits, physicals (annuals, school, sports), preventative medicine including recommended screenings, smoking cessation, and weight management.

Conditions treated at Dr. Crespo’s clinic include: anxiety/depression, asthma, chronic pain, cold/flu, COPD, diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), migraine/headache, muscular-skeletal pathology, obesity, osteoporosis, and sleep disorders.

According to STHS, the Tres Lagos facility is the tenth family medicine clinic the health system has opened in the Valley.

“It is a clinic that provides compassionate care for newborns to older adults. We provide same day, next day appointments, weekend availability on the third Saturday of every month. Additionally, this will also be the fourth outpatient rehabilitation clinic in the Valley that provides comprehensive physical, occupational and speech therapy services,” the health system said.

“We’re very thankful for the opportunity to serve the community of Tres Lagos with convenient, close to home health care services for your residents.”

Christian Martinez is market director for South Texas Health Systems. He said the new clinic took a year or so to plan and develop.

“We are very excited about being in the community of Tres Lagos. We realize it’s a very new community here and a very nice community. And we are grateful to be part of that development. And it is the first of its kind here in the area as well. We’re excited to serve the community here, as well as the entire community of Rio Grand Valley,” Martinez said.

Dr. Crespo said although the ribbon-cutting ceremony served as the grand opening, his clinic had actually been operating for six weeks.

“We’ve helped so many people, and they are so grateful. I think by tapping into the resources that the STHS administration gives us we’re able to solve problems and really give patients a different experience, a unique experience where they are our priority. Rest assured we fight for our patients, we follow up. We make sure their medications are approved, and we give the best care,” Dr. Crespo said.

Adrian Villarreal, is president and CEO for IBC Bank in McAllen. He is also a board member of South Texas Health System.

“Congratulations to the Rhodes family and to South Texas Health Systems for everything that you’ve done and for this beautiful facility. It is very, very, nice,” Villarreal said.

“We’ve had a lot of growth here and it is because of people like the Rhodes family and it’s because of organizations like South Texas Health System that continue to invest down here.”

Villarreal added: “Now, when you come down to the Valley, and you look at the different economic drivers, you just cannot ignore what the medical community means to the people down here. And for that I’m very, very proud to be part of South Texas Health System. Congratulations Dr. Crespo. We wish you much success.”

The new clinic is open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the third Saturday of every month, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 956-515-2002.
