RANCHO VIEJO, TEXAS – Tony Bennett, president and CEO of the Texas Association of Manufacturers, recently spoke at a monthly meeting of the South Texas Manufacturers Association.
The meeting was held at Rancho Viejo Conference Center.
Bennett spoke about some of the key bills manufacturers are supporting this legislative session. The main topic discussed was Texas House Bill 5, otherwise known as The Texas Jobs and Security Act. It is authored by state Rep. Todd Hunter of Corpus Christi. A co-author is state Rep. Oscar Longoria of La Joya.
Supporters of HB 5 say the legislation creates a new, modernized economic development program to ensure Texas continues to beat out its competitors and win jobs for Texas communities.
“The supply chain wants to move back to the No. 1 economy in the world and that’s still the USA,” Bennett said. “We have got to have a tool to help them get here because every community, every nation has a similar incentive program. An introductory offer, if you will to get these advanced manufacturing companies to locate in their community.”
