EDINBURG, RGV – The Valley Legislators Tour starts Thursday, January 22, and ends Sunday, January 25.

Organized by the Rio Grande Valley Partnership, the tour is seen a great opportunity to showcase the Rio Grande Valley’s successes and challenges.

The tour is held every other year when the Legislature is in session. Traditionally, the tour alternates between the Upper and Lower Valley. This year the tour focuses on the Upper Valley.

In an exclusive interview with the Rio Grande Guardian, RGV Partnership President Julian Alvarez highlighted some of the key features of this year’s tour. Here are the bullet points:

* Thus far, 25 legislators slated to attend, plus their staff members

* 54 people on the tour to fly in to Harlingen Airport on Thursday afternoon from Austin

* UT Pan American’s nationally-acclaimed Mariachi Aztlán to greet legislators at Harlingen

* Tour to focus exclusively on Hidalgo County, with no stops in Starr County

* Texas A&M University Chancellor John Sharp to speak to legislators in Weslaco

* Legislators to visit Pharr International Bridge

* Legislators to visit Doctors Hospital at Renaissance

* Legislators to visit a Border Patrol station

* Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia to host legislators at his ranch

* SpaceX, Royal Technologies and Paramount Produce officials to brief legislators

* Port of Brownsville Director Eddie Campirano to brief legislators

* A big announcement to be made at 6:05 p.m. on Thursday at Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance.

* UT RGV leadership would have to confirm Gov. Greg Abbott’s presence

* Healthcare forum to feature officials with Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, South Texas Health System, Knapp Medical Center and Valley Baptist Health System

* No visit to colonias, South Texas College, McAllen Medical Center or Knapp Medical Center
