AUSTIN, Texas – State Rep. Terry Canales of Edinburg has filed a House concurrent resolution honoring former Texas Workforce Commissioner Julian Alvarez.

It is HCR 25. The sponsor in the Senate is state Sen. Juan Hinojosa of McAllen.

Alvarez, a Rio Grande Valley native, finished two terms as commissioner for labor at TWC late last year. In that role he visited the Valley frequently to award checks for workforce development programs. In December, Alvarez announced he was joining Lone Star National Bank as senior vice president and director of business development. 

Previously, Alvarez served as president and CEO of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership, the Valley’s regional chamber of commerce.

Here is HCR 25:

WHEREAS, Julian Alvarez III assumed his new role as senior vice president and director of business development for Lone Star National Bank on December 16, 2022; and 

WHEREAS, Mr. Alvarez brings a proven record of leadership and a wealth of knowledge to this position, which involves overseeing Lone Star National Bank’s workforce development and community outreach efforts; he most recently served two terms as the commissioner representing labor on the Texas Workforce Commission; before joining TWC, he completed tenures as Texas regional director in the office of U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, director of college information for Texas State Technical College, and president and CEO of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership, and he served on the Department of Public Safety’s South Texas Drug Task Force; and 

WHEREAS, An expert in his field, Mr. Alvarez has presented at the South by Southwest Education Conference and the Texas Tribune Festival, and he has been recognized for his achievements with a Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution fellowship at The University of Texas at Austin and an Early Childhood Champion award from Together 4 Children; moreover, he was recently appointed as an Apprenticeship Ambassador for the U.S. Department of Labor; and 

WHEREAS, A leader in his field, Julian Alvarez can reflect with great pride on his record of accomplishments as he begins his new role with Lone Star National Bank; now, therefore, be it 

RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate Julian Alvarez III on his appointment as senior vice president and director of business development for Lone Star National Bank and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further 

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Alvarez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
