ALAMO, Texas – Dr. Jill Stein, Green Party presidential candidate (right), and Giovanna De Leon, an activist for human rights and social justice from Hidalgo County, are pictured above.

Both attended a “Latino Strategy Session” hosted by the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project and the William C. Velasquez Institute.

The event was held Dec. 16 and 17 at the Westside Education and Training Center in San Antonio.

Co-convenors included the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, Texas HOPE, Las Comadres, and Tejano Democrats.

Speakers at the event included U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Austin, state Sen. Jose Rodrgiguez of El Paso, state Sen. Jose Menendez of San Antonio, and Celina Moreno, legislative attorney for MALDEF.

Among the subjects discussed were the Latino vote, immigration, DACA, climate change, education, housing, healthcare wages, and economic development.

Stein spoke about the presidential recount she requested.
